Ravichandran Ashwin has held the reigns of spin department of the Indian cricket team for quite some time now. His steady rise through the platform of Indian Premier League has also reflected in his performances for the Indian team. However, during the recent test series against England, critics have questioned his technique because of his woeful failure against the English batsmen. While English spinners like Monty Panesar and Graeme Swann left the Indian batsmen flummoxed, Ashwin failed to irk any of their batsmen. This lead to the fear of withering away of a promising spin talent who many have hoped to fill in the void of Anil Kumble and Harbhajan Singh in the Indian team. However, just before this year’s ipl schedule, Ashwin has proved his mettle once again.
Ashwin resulted in amassing 12 wickets in the first test match against Australia in the Border- Gavaskar Trophy. The test series will be preceding ipl 2013. However, the euphoria for the spinner was blotted to some extent by a fine invoked by International Cricket Council. The fine has not been incurred due to any misbehaviour on Ashwin’s part.
Instead the fine has been result of breach of clothing regulations which ICC has chalked out for test matches. Ashwin was seen sporting 4 logos on batting pads, which surpassed the permissible limits. This resulted in fine of 10 percent of the match fees for Ashwin. Fans would be hoping this does not reflect on his form before this year’s ipl live score kicks in.
